Samborski, Mattis, Inc.
Professional Land Surveying

Samborski, Mattis, Inc has become known for its excellence in
surveying, beginning in 1936 when it was founded by F. C. Lang.  Lang’s
surveying notes were works of art in the careful crafting and detail that he
included.  He would survey entire blocks in order to be able to guarantee
homeowners the location of their property.

In 1944 William L. Samborski joined the firm followed by many years
surveying Chicago and the North Shore alongside Lang.  “Bill’s field
notes were more industrial, closer to the perfect model of efficiency.”  On
a single project two, 4x6, field note pages, hold all of the details for fifty
residential surveys!

By 1960, when Bill became the owner of the firm, the tradition for detail
had well been established.  He continued to build a strong client base
with his reputation for accuracy.

In 1979 Bill decided it was time to retire at which point he sold the
business to Michael Mattis Sr.   Mattis began surveying in the hills of
Pennsylvania, where, in his younger days, his field work on the
Pennsylvania Turnpike returned outstanding accuracies.  Upon his arrival
in the Midwest, along with his wife, Patricia, he surveyed original
government sections of land southwest of Chicago and did early survey
work in a young town called Schaumburg.  Since assuming ownership in
1979 he personally surveyed over forty-thousand commercial, residential
and condominium properties from south of Chicago to the Wisconsin
border.

In 2005, after 25 years of ownership, he retired and handed the keys
over to his sons, Michael Jr. and Daniel.  Michael Jr., ‘practically a
surveyor at birth’, had an early start in field experience, working
weekends and summers throughout Jr High and High School.  Michael Jr
soon became a licensed Professional Land Surveyor.

After more than 20 years experience in surveying Chicago and the North
Shore, he has learned countless details and characteristics of the earlier
surveyors, who subdivided the areas farms and towns into the properties
that exist today.

The wealth of information, generated from the old records and detailed
field data, gathered since 1936, along with the knowledge and training
passed down by its predecessors, allows Samborski, Mattis, Inc to
honestly and accurately produce the quality surveys that they do today.
